AUXILIARY FORCES.

The establishment of the Hong Kong Volunteer Corps is as follows:- Staff: 4 officers.

Mountain Battery: 4 officers and 76 non-commissioned officers and men, armed with the Martini-Henry carbine and having six 7-pr. (200 lbs.) R.M.L. guns.

Three Maxim Gun Companies, each consisting of 3 officers and 48 non- commissioned officers and men, armed with the Martini - Henry carbine, and each company having four Maxim guns, Martini-Henry chambered; or a total force of 17 officers, 220 non-commissioned officers and men. Of these numbers, only 11 officers and 83 non-commissioned officers and men have been enrolled, but in the event of war the establishment would doubtless be exceeded.

They form part of the Reserve in Victoria, and are available for reinforcing the Southern or any other Sections where required.

The mountain battery is also trained to work R.M.L. heavy guns, and would be available for assisting the garrison gunners if needed.
