NOTES.-Coolies on Island of Hong Kong accommodated in Victoria Barracks, those at Kowloon in Whitfield Mat-sheds.
Indian Regiments provide their own water carriers and dhoolie bearers (followers). Water is laid on in all the forts, and there are ample means of replenishing supply of water to men in the field, especially so in No. II Section, Sanitary services performed under contract for troops in forts, &c. Field latrines for troops encamped.
Launches can be hired from various steam launch companies and private firms, about 180 in number, and can be hired for about 30 dollars a day. Junks and cargo boats are also available in large numbers. Water boats can be obtained locally, and water can be carried in junks. All the above can be obtained with a day's notice.
Existing Water Transport Establishment fully mans the 4 W.D. launches and 4 rowing boats, and is under the Superintendent (European). Permanent Establishment to be maintained as follows:-A.S.C. Coolie Corps (which includes present establishment, 52 strong)
