5. Mode of Reinforcement.-From Reserve by water to Quarry Bay and Sai-ki-Wan. 6. Communication.---A carriage road runs from Victoria, along the edge of the sea, to Sai-ki-Wan, thence by a concrete road to the various forts and batteries. A road branches off from the main road at Sai-ki-Wan, winds along the lower slopes of Mount Parker, and runs viâ Tytam Gap and Tytam Tuk to Stanley. At Stanley it recurves to the west and runs along the southern shores of the island past Deep Water Bay, Aberdeen, Pokfulum to Mount Davis, and the western end of Victoria. Lateral com- munication with No. IV Section is obtained by a road running from Quarry Bay Gap to Wong-nei-Cheong Gap, the headquarters of the section. The pier at Quarry Bay is connected with Quarry Bay Gap by a road which runs almost direct, and by the aërial train of the Sugar Refining Company.
The forts and batteries are all connected by telephone with Lyenun Barracks, which in turn is connected with the headquarter office. A branch telephone line also runs to Sywan Redoubt and Tytam Gap. Communication with Devil's Peak and Haiwan Hill must for the present be established by signalling, and by boat from the Brennan torpedo station. When the Devil's Peak battery is completed it will be brought into telephonic communication.
7. Supplies. Rations will be supplied daily from the Victoria main depôt. A ration sub-depôt will be established at the go-down of the Sugar Refining Company, where seven days' reserve rations will be stored, and from which rations will be distributed.
Water is obtained from supply laid on to the barracks, and from tanks at Reverse, from Tytam reservoir, and in the case of Devil's Peak and Haiwan Hill, from streams in their vicinity.

8. Ammunition.-Gun ammunition at the rate of 500 rounds per gun is issued to all guns with the exception of 303-in. Maxims, which have 11,000 rounds per gun.
Infantry carry 100 rounds per rifle in pouches, other branches 50 rounds.
The 1st Reserve small-arm ammunition, 100 rounds per rifle, will be in regimental charge.
The 2nd Reserve, 300 rounds per rifle, will be in Ordnance charge in the field magazine.
Guu reserve ammunition will be stored in the batteries, and that for the movable armament in the field magazine.
9. Ration Sub-Depot.-The ration sub-depôt will be established at a go-down of the Sugar Refining Company. Rations will be distributed to the forts by coolie labour, and to the troops at Mount Parker by means of the aerial train.
10. Field Magazine. The field magazine will be formed at the same place as the ration sub-depôt, and ammunition distributed in the same manner as rations.
11. Dressing Station. The dressing station will be established at the office of the R.E. foreman of works, near Lyemun Pier. Mild cases will be treated here, more serious cases being sent, in the case of British troops to the Victoria Base Hospital, and in the case of native troops to the Kowloon Base Hospital, as the medical officer directs.
12. Modes of Attack.-The more probable forms of attack on this section are-
