which, in a satisfactory way, shows that Mr. Wodehouse does his duties, I recommended Your Lordship to sanction his receiving the larger sum. I adhere to the opinion that Mr. Wodehouse deserves the higher rate of pay voted by the Legislature, and I venture to ask Your Lordship to reconsider your decision.

11. Your Lordship is right in assuming that no further provision is made for the conversion of the Lock Hospital into a General Hospital because the work is completed. That is so. I carefully inspected the New Hospital some weeks ago; and after visiting it again next month, I hope to lay a report respecting it before Your Lordship.

12. The small sum voted as a subscription to Reuter's Telegrams has been regularly sanctioned by my predecessor and by myself after the approval of the vote by the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council, and on condition that the Chamber of Commerce contributes a subscription to an equal amount. This very moderate subsidy enables the public to obtain telegraphic information of general interest that we would not otherwise get in Hongkong.
