own feelings under the circumstances.

I also fear

that continuing

my duties there would cause more

unpleasantness to Your Excellency

than my services could compensate

for and my position there under such circumstances would after all not be tenable for any length of time.

I tender this with much reluctance because I feel and shall ever feel under great

obligations for Your Excellency's great kindness and unmerited forbearance. I am sure,

however, Your Excellency will understand that it is not ingratitude

which prompts this action on

my part but that I have no other

choice under the circumstances

but to ask you to relieve me

of my duties and whilst accepting

my resignation to preserve

for me that

generous trust and

confidence with which Your

Excellency honoured me so

long.
