From an entirely different source I hear a most stupid story but still one that I ought to mention. I am told on seemingly good authority - and I heard this for the first time today - that the reason why Ede for China begud... lo... the ... first ... is that one of his friends had been personally assaulted by Your Excellency, has ~ reported the matter at the time to the Secretary of State, had also taken legal steps to prosecute England and that the reply expected by next mail. It seems to me incredible. Yet I think I ought to give it to Your Excellency as I heard it.
