The Governor told me this and added that he had told both Mr. Low and Mr. Drummond that this proposal, as far as it concerned me, was "infamous" as I had done no wrong in the matter.

Believing that the promise to take the case out of Court would be kept, I urged His Excellency most strongly to accept my resignation, which, through force of circumstances, he eventually accepted on 17th November.
