Palmer, the Governor's former Aide-de-camp, because the Governor had directed me to consult him in case of any trouble arising about this matter. I also showed him a draft of the letter I proposed to send to Mr. Johnson in reply. Major Palmer suggested some alterations which I adopted and the letter was accordingly sent as approved by Major Palmer.

15. When Mr. Hayllar proposed to send out a writ against me, in consequence of the communication I made to Mr. Johnson, I telegraphed to the Governor the substance of the interview I had with Mr. Johnson and wrote to him regarding the details (Details). Mr. Hayllar also wrote to Mr. Low giving him a detailed account of Mr. Johnson's version of my statements as embodied in the petition subsequently filed in Court, and the Governor had possession of this letter. I received no reply from the Governor.
