Sometime before his return to the colony, in October last, His Excellency the Governor was aware of the allegations which had been put forward in his name and on the 25th of that month His Excellency authorized me to give a contradiction to a material portion of them. I have since then been shown two letters of His Excellency, in which Dr Eitel's statements are declared to be wholly untrue.
