South - West) and if the Latter proves after all a Military possession, I would advise that the Secretary of State for War be moved to sanction the erection of the new Station on the site of the old, subject to the payment by the Colony of a peppercorn rent.

But as these inquiries would be useless if the proposed new building is already in course of erection, it would be desirable first to ascertain by telegraph whether such is the case before taking any step in the direction I have indicated. The Enclosures in M. Branston's letter are herewith returned.
