present arrangement, the new barracks will have to be built objectionably close to the vertical cutting or cliff at the back of the premises, which will deprive them of any air from that quarter during the summer heats.

Before I left the Colony, I learnt that the Military Authorities claimed certain rights to the ground where the present Police Station has been standing for over fifteen years (and which I now recommend as the proper site). And I therefore advised Governor Hennessy to investigate these claims before he proceeded to determine the position of the proposed new building, but I am not aware that any such investigation was ever made; at all events, the result was never communicated to me for record in the Land Office, and I presume therefore that, rather than raise the question, the alternative of building the Station was elected.
