31st October, 1881.
Sir,
I have now the honour to bring before you for the information of His Excellency the Earl of Kimberley, the names of two gentlemen with whom I have communicated on the subject of the Ship ... at the Central School, Hong Kong. One of them is willing to undertake the post at the salary of $2400 per annum, should it be offered to her. Of their respective fitness for the post, I shall give my opinion further on.
But allow me to observe here that I have communicated or corresponded not only with them, but with several others; and it was only very lately that I received a final reply in the matter. I worked hard to send to you. It would have been useless, moreover, for another, not so well acquainted with the difficulties and requirements of the post, to accept applications for it, and submit them to you.
The first name to which I ask your attention is that of Mr. George H. Baytion Wright, M.A., Head Master of Queen's College, Hong Kong.
