with reference to the despatch

of 22 Dec 80-

from the Sec. of State

hids and the advisability of framing different days of admission

(Minutes.)

Mr Meade

A

Mr Keswick objects to the proposal for pay & free days as being "in their opinion as regards (the visit to Museum, impracticable" "as the result would be that the Museum would

be Empty for three days out of six, with crowds the other three. If so, Either the respectable Chinese & the Europeans do not object so greatly to the unrefined Chinese, or they do not care enough for the Museum to pay a little

for it. In either case,

there is very little Logic in Mr. Keswick's objection.

The answer, that when it comes through the Gov., that the Sec. of State sees no reason

to change his decision "the expenditure of public

money on an institution in which any distinction is made as to class or race in the rules of admission"
