int p. 37.
2. On the 11th October 1878 The Bailiff, one of the Committee, put this question to Mr. Jease. "Then the question is where do these deported men go?
Answer. Mr. Jease. "They go to the Mainland, to Singapore, and some to Australia, some come to Shanghai."
This answer was framed solely with reference to the places where the men eventually went, and not the immediate destination. The ultimate places for embarkation of the deportees was the object of the enquiry.

Given the rest of the text is garbled and doesn't form coherent sentences, it's challenging to correct it further without making significant changes, which goes against the instruction of not rephrasing or rewriting the text. Thus, the correction is limited to the initial part that makes sense. To adhere strictly to the output format requested (HTML using `` for paragraphs), the above response is already in the correct format.
