The Secretary of State for the Colonies has been pleased to appoint you to be a Supernumerary Clerk on the establishment of the Colony of Hong Kong on a salary at the rate of $4800 per annum.

If you accept the appointment, you will be entitled to half salary from the date of your embarkation from this Country, but you would not be entitled to any allowances in connection with your duties. You will, beyond salary, be required to give Security in the sum of £2000.

Should you decline to accept the Appointment, you are requested to inform the Secretary of State at once.

If you have decided to accept the Appointment, you will lose no time in presenting yourself for Medical Examination by Dr. [Name] Brown of [Address], whose fee is one guinea. On that occasion, you will inform him of the earliest date at which you will be ready to leave for the Colony.
