LOS HE MAY 31

Hate for the Colonies.

Referring to your letter of May 7th in which, a passage from my letter to the Colonial Secretary of Dec 28th, you state that you are directed to request me to assist the Government by stating the nature of the clue which I believed I had obtained together with any other circumstances likely to lead to the ultimate disclosure and recovery of the Jewels entrusted by Huffere.

I beg to state today that I am not only willing but anxious to assist the government to the best of my ability in any matter connected with the duty of Registrar.

The clue to which I referred was that arising from my previous knowledge of the circumstances and any professional skill and experience I should have been able to follow out but not fully as would be available in the hands of another.

I had obtained information, from a source I am averse to disclose, which led me to conclude that the face had used his agents and another. I had reason to believe that the same should be adjudicated bankrupt and that the parties referred to should be proceeded against under the powers of the Bankruptcy Ordinance.

I had ascertained that there was some property held by the parties referred to, in trust, which fact, with some other particulars with which I had been furnished, would have enabled me to elicit the truth however reluctant they might have been.
