I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary of State, that They learn with satisfaction from your letter of the 20th June that should the Colonial Government decide to issue one dollar notes, the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Company will unconditionally withdraw their one dollar notes from circulation, provided they are permitted to establish a Branch Bank at Singapore.
My Lords accept the formal undertaking to that effect conveyed in the letter of the Chief Manager of the Bank dated the 2nd November 1880 and inclosed in your letter under reply. In fulfilment, accordingly,
The Honorable R A Meade,
Colonial Office.
