Eneconuen Agreement

made the

One thousand eight hundred and eight, one Between The Undersigned one of the Crown Agents for the Colonies of Downing Street London in the County of Middlesex acting for and on behalf of the Government of Hong Kong (hereinafter for the sake of brevity called the Government) of the one part, and Osbert Chadwick of Park Cottage, East Sheen in the County of Surrey, Civil Engineer (hereinafter called the Engineer) of the other part.

Whereas the said Government require the services of an Engineer to make a Special Report upon matters connected with the Drainage and water supply of the Colony of Hong Kong and the said Engineer hath agreed to undertake the duties required Now it is agreed by and between the parties hereto as follows

That the said Engineer shall proceed to Hong Kong by an early Steamer in October next

That he shall immediately upon his arrival in the Colony place himself in communication with the Colonial Secretary or other Officer deputed by him for the purpose and proceed to make all necessary Surveys and will supply the Government of the Colony with all requisite reports, detailed plans, specifications, estimates &c to enable the Government to arrive at a perfect understanding as to the nature, extent and cost of any proposed works

(and the plans to be furnished by the Engineer shall include all and every thing that is necessary to enable the Government to call for tenders for the execution of such works).

That the said Engineer shall place himself at the disposal of the Government for such period as may be necessary to enable him to efficiently carry out the duties he hereby undertakes.

That the remuneration to be paid by the Government to the said Engineer for the work he hereby undertakes to
