But once connect the proposed Albany fire tank with the general domestic service main, in other words, once divert to the daily use of the local population, a source of supply which belongs solely to the Harrison, and serious questions will arise with the War Department. No objections, however, will be raised by the latter if the Albany tank is reserved solely
for fire extinction purposes, as there may be serious fire for months together, and consequently it may
not be necessary to replenish the tank more than two or three times a year.
It is strongly advised therefore that, in order to preserve the purity of the domestic supply, to maintain the requisite pressure at the fire hydrants, and less to avoid questions with the Military Authorities, the proposed system of fire-tanks
may not be amalgamated with the general water-supply of the Colony.
Regarding the second question as to whether the size proposed for the tanks will be sufficient, it was considered by the Hong Kong Fire Brigade Authorities that a volume of 630,000 Gallons of Water stored at the high pressure intended would fulfil all reasonable requirements, provided this volume were available immediately.
