Fire Tank Reject. Hong Kong
Corne
With reference to this project, the undersigned, Surveyor General of Hong Kong, having gone to England has been requested by the Crown Agents to confer with Mr Rawlinson, with a view to the settlement of the following points :
1. As to whether the fire tank system should be amalgamated with the general water supply of the Colony.
2. As to whether the size proposed for the tanks will be sufficient.
3. With reference to the details of construction of the tanks.
In respect of the first question as to whether the fire tank scheme should be amalgamated with the general water supply of the Colony, it will be found that such an amalgamation will entirely defeat the original object and intention of the Fire tank project which seeks to extinguish fires without the aid of fire engines, a class of vehicle which it is often found impossible to drag up the steep slopes of the Town. If the fire service and the domestic service were joined and the fire tank water sent to the fire hydrants through the mains.
