the nature of the duties which it is proposed to entrust to him, and also with respect to the length of time which the work would probably occupy, and in the event of its being possible to state this he would prefer to be paid a lump sum instead of receiving payment at a fixed rate for the time which he may be actually occupied.
Chadwick proposes to place himself in communication with Mr Price, the Surveyor General, who is now in this country, with the view of obtaining such information as Mr. Price may be able to afford him, and he would be prepared to leave for Hong Kong in about five months time in the event of the appointment being conferred upon him.
