Secretary, for transmission to the Governor
In connection with
M. Duggan's application I beg that the Salary
of the First Clerk may also
be brought to the
notice. Mr Wagner's duties are quite as
arduous as those of Officers holding
a similar position
in the Department, whilst his pay is much less - $200
compared with $400 per annum
enjoyed by the
Chief Clerks in other Government Offices. This difference may
be owing
to the fact that the
pay was only $400 per annum,
and as his knowledge of Cantonese and Hindustani colloquial makes him particularly useful
in this Department, I trust
it will not be
overlooked. Should any changes be made

I beg to suggest
an increase to his
Salary of at least to $400 a year
