COLONIAL SURGEON TO ACTING COLONIAL SECRETARY.
GOVERNMENT CIVIL HOSPITAL, HONGKONG, 1st June, 1881,
SIR-In reply to your letter No.835 dated 13th May, 1881, I have the honour to inform that ten persons were vaccinated in the Hospital by the Superintendent. I have not been able to obtain any more information as to vaccinations by the Superintendent.
Dr. STOCKWELL, while Acting Health Officer, vaccinated his own child twice without success. I have performed thirty-two vaccinations on children--fifteen of them unsuccessful-and about as many more on adults.
Eighteen tubes were sent to Dr. KERR of Canton, and six to Dr. MCLEOD of Shanghai. Both the Army and Navy Medical Departments have been supplied with vaccine.
Dr. O'BRIEN, Dr. HARTIGAN, Dr. CLOUTH, Dr. YOUNG and Dr. GOMES have all been supplied with vaccine.
I will take care in future that a record is kept, but it had not been kept before any time, and was not customary in my station in India, where I received weekly supplies of vaccine.
