In July, 1877 one of the hovers facing Hollywood Road situated on Inland Lot No 55 which was resumed by the Government, for a site on which to erect the proposed New Central School was converted into a Temporary Lunatic Asylum vide G.G. No 1530 of 1877.
In the Colonial Estimates for 1878 a sum was provided for the erection of a New Lunatic Asylum, and its construction was commenced that year on the foundations which had previously been laid for School at the south west corner of the
