Major Palmer estimates the prime cost of the Building, Instruments &c. at $33,600 and the cost of maintenance at $10,000 per annum, and details the staff which will be necessary for the carrying on of the work of observation.
8. Governor Hennessy fully assented to Major Palmer's recommendations and expressed himself confident that they would commend themselves to Your Lordship and would be coincided by any scientific advisers in England to whom Your Lordship would be pleased to refer them.
9. The Governor has instructed Major Palmer to proceed with the preparation of detailed plans and estimates for the two principal buildings. On this task he is now engaged in concert with the Acting Surveyor General.
