The question has been brought before the Legislative Council and the members were unanimously in favour of acceding so far to it as the Captain Superintendent recommends. I am of the same opinion and if Your Lordship approves a vote of the Legislative Council can be taken to pay the requisite increase at the commencement of next year.

I may also state from my intimate knowledge of the work that the Inspectors in charge of the outstations should be allowed a large remuneration for the extra work they do under the Harbour and Coasts Ordinance and for the Registration of Births and Deaths.
