I shall give my best attention to the details of the Ordinance and amending regulations Your Lordship thinks it desirable to introduce.

Meanwhile I may perhaps venture to express some doubt as to the entire accuracy of the information given by Her Majesty's Government regarding the alleged satisfactory working of Contagious Diseases laws in Singapore to which Your Lordship draws my attention. Your Lordship will find in my despatch No. 104 of the 11th of November 1879 a report of the Colonial Surgeon of Singapore which would seem to indicate that the soldiers arriving from Singapore are afflicted with an unusual amount of venereal diseases.
