Mr. May - Those tenders were opened by the order of the Governor. The next morning, in the presence of Tang King Long, on behalf of Mr. Ban Hap, it was found that the Singapore Saigon Tanner had offered $206,000.
The Governor acquainted him with the offer that had been made. It was then asked if he would make a higher offer. He had offered $200,000. He was then told that his offer would have to be referred to the Singapore Saigon Farmer who had offered $206,000.
The next day, he was again seen by the Governor and it was arranged that the competing farmers should have the opportunity of placing their tenders before the Government.
I may add that I have been informed by the Honorable Mr. A. Chay that the old Farmer was not satisfied with the sale of the farm and expressed his regret at having lost it, but said that nothing could have been more just and fair than the mode in which the farm was disposed of.
