In referring to the
revenue obtained in 1880, and for the
current year, I pointed to the connection between the
revenue
of
Eastern
trade of this Colony and the progress
of Her Majesty's Chinese subjects
in this
important depôt of trade on terms of perfect equality with the other residents in the Colony. As the treatment
of
the Chinese elsewhere is now attracting some notice I venture to invite Your Lordship's attention to the following passage from the speech in Council of Mr. Bulkeley Johnson, the senior partner in the East of the house of
Jardine Matheson & Co :-
