The question for the exemption from taxes of certain persons in the Colony connected with the Navy.
Sam state that Lord Kimberley Geofores with their Lordships' concurrence, to inform Piif. Hennes reply that while it is customary to exempt buildings of a public nature from taxation, such exemption has not been extended to private houses occupied by persons connected with the Navy.
Their Lordships will observe from the despatch "the letter Colonial Secretary, of which a copy accompanies this Despatch, that the Commodore was incorrect in supposing that Military officers and others holding various positions in Hong Kong were exempted from paying taxes.
