His Excellency refers to
the case of the Abbotsford which
was considered in Council in

case of the Glamis Castle
in which though the Application and Captain Thornett's letter
described the Emigrants as free Emigrants under
a contract of service, the then Attorney General, the Hon. Mr. Brameiton, on reading
a long
series of questions which the Administrator had subsequently
ordered to be
put to the intending
Emigrants, expressed the opinion
that the
verbal contract of service
was sufficient to constitute
a Contract of service within the
meaning of the Ordinance.
The
Administrator Mr. Austin had
acted on that advice.
