The staff which was proposed by Sir Michael Hicks Beach, as I reported to Your Lordship being considered sufficient by the Judges, will, if not modified, cost $864 more than the staff which existed before the provisional scheme of December 1879. The additions to the charge are these: 1: a salary of $2160 to one of the Deputy Registrars; 2° an increase of $480, authorized by Sir Michael Hicks Beach, to the salary of the Puisne Judge's Clerk; and, 3: the above-mentioned increase of $144 to the Shroff. From this, however, has to be deducted the sum of $1990, the salary of the Clerk of Court, who is not required as a separate officer under the new scheme.
6. With regard to the personnel of the staff, I have to inform Your Lordship that, since the suspension of Mr. Gibbons, Mr. Mossop, who has been acting as Registrar, has left the service to pursue his profession as a Solicitor. Mr. Sangster, whom I thereupon appointed Acting Registrar, I recommend for the permanent appointment of Deputy Registrar and Appraiser. If he had been a barrister or solicitor, he would have been qualified for the post of Registrar.
