If a long acquaintance with the system of education pursued at the "Central School", a knowledge of the Chinese language and literature, an intimate acquaintance with the manners and customs of the Chinese, together with my long experience as a teacher be deemed of importance, I trust that these will have their due consideration.
In submitting my application to His Excellency the Governor, I

you
will direct his attention to my "claims and pretensions for the Office.
In the event of my application being successful, I shall endeavour to uphold the high standard of efficiency which the school has attained.
