Your Petitioners reflect

that with tears in their eyes

their grandfather has, for more than 30 years, performed his functions as Elder of a ward with justice and uprightness, and of this whole district is aware, now, because he strictly forbids his nephews to open a gambling den, he is brutally murdered by Yang Pa-h-masin and others, whose consciences are stung by his reproaches,

and three lives are lost by foul means, so the iniquity of these villains is outrageous indeed; not only cannot Chinese Law pardon it, but British Law cannot overlook it. Besides, these Criminals have submitted themselves and confessed their guilt, Your Petitioners have given their evidence and the case has long been decided in open Court.

Those who promised the extradition of the accused by the Magistrates, Chinese and Foreign merchants have heard the decision, and if the Criminals be not surrendered,
