Eighteen persons received wounds at the hands of Wong Wing-long, Yong Pak-kwai, and others, distant relatives of their clan, from the effects of which they died. "The complainant stated that his cousin, Yong Dow-tsai, had been injured in the same case.
On the receipt of this report, the Magistrate proceeded above to the spot, where he held an inquest on the bodies of the dead and examined the wounds of the living, filling up a list of the injuries and other particulars for record in the archives of the case. He further communicated a general report of the result of the inquest to all his superiors, including his police superiors.
At the same time, notices were directed to be issued offering a large reward for the apprehension of Wong Wing-long and the other criminals, which was to be effected within a given time.
Policemen now report that, in obedience to these orders, and attended by the relations of the deceased, they traced the criminals to Ha Tsuen, where they found Yong Pak-kwai, Young A-lee-tsai, Yong Kwan-tak, Yong Sing-tei, Jong Cheung-ling, Young A-leung, Yong A-lee-sai, Yong Tze-leung, Jar A-tsin, and Yong Shau-king, in all 13, had taken refuge. They accordingly arrested the men on the spot and made an application to the Ha Tsuen District Magistrate, requesting him to take them into temporary custody.
