that
the Surveyor General to Acting Colonial Secretary.
(Copy.)
W336.
of
Sir
was not free from my department's blame for the accident to Mr. Foughtrie's house and that consequently the issue arbitration might be entertained, but I
as
distinctly remember that these were
by no means His Excellency's earlier
sentiments.
It is incredible that in direct
opposition to the Governor's opinion
I could have penned the note to W. Foughtrie, who at the date of that note
was also
a
personal friend of mine. In point of fact I addressed W. Foughtrie only after gathering what I considered to be His Excellency's views and wishes in the matter.
I have &c.
(Signed) J. M. Price.
Surveyor General.
CS.O. N° 3404 of 1880.
Surveyor General's Office, 18th December, 1880.
In reply to your
letter No. 1480 of
18th instant with reference to the
Foughtrie case,
I have the honor to
state that before the points raised
by
Mr. Foughtrie
can be understood
the Governor and
or
I
can
reply it will be necessary for me to inspect the papers in that case and I will therefore be obliged
by your sending
the same.
I have &c.
(Signed) J. M. Price.

Honorable Frederick Stewart
Acting Colonial Secretary
