"I was quite fresh and very little had been washed away, although a stream of water was passing down the drains, thus in some measure confirming the opinion which I had previously formed, whilst examining the opening on the night of the storm. In my opinion, this hole was made in the top of the drain, and that it was used as a receptacle for night-soil and other refuse matter, and that on the night of the storm the water passing down the upper portion of the drain was greater than usual, so much so that it could not pass down the drain, the waterway being obstructed, contracting the passage to such an extent as to cause the water to overflow, and flood the premises, as before described.

The other hole was opened in the drain near the building; thus, for the first time, revealing the fact that the drain passed under the house. A portion of the drain, which passes under the house, was found and uncovered yesterday afternoon, the 20th instant. One covering stone is broken, two are missing, and a portion of one side of the drain has been carried away.

On the top of the broken covering stone, a large boulder was resting. As a consequence of the two stones being out of place...
