His Excellency the Governor said that one of the objects he had in calling the Council together was to decide on the Coughtries Claim.
The Colonial Secretary (Dr. Stewart) said the papers were still with the Surveyor General's (Mr. Price).
In reply to the Governor, the Acting Colonial Secretary (Dr. Stewart) said he had, in accordance with His Excellency's written words, written to the Surveyor General on the subject and had received a reply; but on receiving a further letter from Coughtrie pressing for a reply, the Surveyor General had again been written to, but there was no response.
The Governor remarked that the claim had been presented five years ago and that a considerable period had elapsed since the Surveyor General (Mr. Price) had been called to make his final report.
It was resolved that a letter be written to Mr. Price stating that the Governor in Council wished to consider the papers and his final report without any further delay.
