1. This is a claim for several thousands of dollars against the Government for damages alleged to have been caused to Mr. Aughtie's property at Belmont by the action of the Surveyor-General's Department.

The repairs to Mr. Coughlie's house occurred on the morning of the 22nd of May, and are due to the action of Mr. Aughtie's servant having closed the Government drain passing through the premises by means of two square or oblong stones placed uprightly as shown in red in the diagrams - bearing so firmly against the coverstone of the drain that...
