Mixed questions which incidentally relate to the case, but we should perhaps call upon Mr. Price for an explanation regarding his conduct. Mr. Coughtrie has asked for the full documents on the 15 Dec: 80 p. 155, and in his letter of 18 Dec: p. 159, he expressed his readiness to give them.

The Governor asked that the Blue Book, which seems to contain the original documents of which the White Paper contains extracts, be returned. It also contains Mr. Frost's long report, which is important.

One item, which is on page 4, does not appear in the other volumes, and Mr. Coughton has printed a pamphlet giving his rejoinder to Mr. Price's statements, in which he absolutely denies the assertion made by Mr. Trims regarding the displacement of the stones by his servants, on which a good deal turns (p. 67 of the pamphlet).

I cannot see that this point was fully investigated by the arbitrator, although Colonel Strachan (p. 67) reported that, when Mr. Deane's deposition accepting the obstruction was taken into account, it did not of itself explain the disaster.

The relevant reports will be found at pp. 131, 189, and 191 of the Blue Vol.
