At the rate of $24.00 fee per annum.
I am of opinion that this salary is sufficient for the post and that no promise of further increment should at present be made.
Then I affirm the other suggestions which I have made, viz. that Mr. Li Hong should be assistant interpreter, receiving salary at the rate of $1800 per annum; that Mr. Ho Kai should be interpreter in Hindustani and Bengali at the rate of $300 per annum with a salary of $283; and that the salary of the Chinese clerk, Mr. Cheung Tai Kwong, should be raised to $1200 per annum.
The staff as now paid and constituted will be able to cope satisfactorily with both interpretation in the law courts.
15. I shall in a later reply to despatch address you.
