to be Interpreter in Sindostani and Bengali at a salary of $300 and Met Li Hong-mi to be Assistant Interpreter and translator documents at a salary of $1,800 a year.
The salary of Mr Than Lai-Kwong, the clerk and Translator of the Summary Jurisdiction Court, I recommend should be raised to $1,200.
In the despatch No. 43 of 19th April 1881, Your Lordship expresses the opinion that Dr. Eitel, in addition to his duties as Inspector of Schools, should be appointed head Interpreter to the Supreme Court and supervisor of the Staff of Interpreters. For the latter post he is eminently qualified, and, in fact, he has done that duty for a long time.
But I do not think it would be fair to the public interests or to himself to ask Dr. Eitel to take the post of head's Interpreter in the Court for which I now recommend Mr. Ball.
