I referred in that dispatch to the strong feeling against myself which had been displayed by the Governor in his recent public utterances and more especially marked by his speech in Council on the 10th September 1880, to which I have already alluded.

After the lapse of so long a period since the meeting of Council in question, I should have desired to forget the personal feelings which the course of the debate raised in me, but the repetition by Dr Eitel of certain statements made by His Excellency in Council, which were not in accordance with fact and the erroneous character of which I pointed out to His Excellency in my reply, renders it necessary for me now to recur to the subject, not merely on personal grounds, but out of regard also to the interests of the Colony.
