the hospital. It might be said that it is not desired to interfere with the present arrangement for religious services in gaol and hospital, reserving for future consideration how the pay of the colonial chaplain is to be supplied

Colonial Chaplain.

There is no regimental Army Chaplain but in the Army Estimates £500 is provided for pay of officiating clergy. Religious services for troops appear to be performed by clergymen of different denominations (Ch. of England, R. Catholic, and Presbyterian) not on the Colonial Establishment.

I do not

think that we need trouble ourselves much about the gaol. The Colonial Chaplain appears to have performed one service weekly and to have visited the sick. Our service appears to have been performed weekly by a student nominated by Bishop Burdon. Services are also performed regularly by the Presbyterian Clergyman and access is afforded to clergymen of all denominations. It does not appear whether
