Act. Surveyor Gent has submitted a report. Hoping, as he is of opinion that he would be able to bring his scheme into operations in a far shorter time than either of the larger & more costly schemes of the others, asks that result of communications bet. Brise and ho? Rawlinson may be sent to Colony by Telegraph.
(Minutes.)
M: Meade.
He should have submitted H. Bowdler's scheme & then we could have referred to Messrs Rawlinson & Price. It is too late now to call for it and there seems nothing to be done but wait for those Gentlemen's report.
The Dry earth System is no doubt better than water closets but I am afraid its introduction means that the Chinese will be allowed to do what they like with their Sewage.
I scarcely expect we shall be able to send a reply by telegraph as the Governor requests.
