in Hongkong in 1878, I ventured to put him provisionally into the Legislative Council where his presence was of equal advantage to the Government and to the Community.
He is a man of culture as well as one of the leading English Merchants in the East. Of M. Belilios I have already written. Mr. F. D. Sassoon is the brother of Sir Albert Sassoon. He was educated at Cambridge and he is at the local head of the wealthiest English and Indian house in Hong Kong. He is admirably fitted for a seat in the Council.
Mr. Henry Liston Dalrymple is the local head of the English house of Birley & Co. He is also a wealthy and well educated gentleman. These four gentlemen are directors of the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank and of other local Companies.
