I am not sure that I quite understand the Chief Justice's view. He says "It became a sort of Official Assignee that stuffam the Crown." A... defaulter and therefore without remedy against Stuffam's sureties owing to the old-fashioned form of the bond securing it.

My doubt is as to what the Chief Justice means here by the word "remedy". Remedy for what? Probably remonstrances made by the Chief Justice in 1874 and...
