be considered in connection with and as part of the general question of the Water Supply of the Colony, I requested the Surveyor General, Mr Price, to do this; and, in the same minute (19th of April, 1880,) his attention was again drawn to the necessity of bearing in mind the advantages of the Chinese house-bucket system in preference to the system of flushing sewage as apparently contemplated by Mr. Price in his water Supply Scheme of the 1st of November 1873

Two months having passed without any reply from Mr. Price, Dr Stewart, the Acting Colonial Secretary, wrote to him on the 22nd of June calling his attention to the Colonial Secretary's letter of the 20th of April enclosing the correspondence respecting Fire Brigade matters and additional water supply, with minute of the 19th of April thereon, and requesting an early reply.

On the 1st of July a letter and memorandum dated 30th June, 1880, were received from Mr. Price referring to certain plans and an Appendix which he promised to send to the Government in a few days. Mr. Price pointed out that seriously the weather had retarded the completion of the plans.
