At a recent meeting of the Legislative Council the Government had occasion publicly to refer to his predecessor's description of Dr Eitel as "a renowned Chinese Scholar"; and, on more than one occasion, Sir Thomas Wade has congratulated the Governor on having secured the valuable services of such a thoroughly competent translator.
