On reviewing his proceedings from beginning to end, the impression left upon my mind is that at the very outset he deceived himself on the question of emoluments he was entitled to get, and finding that I was not disposed to increase them, he was dissatisfied, and lost his temper under the Chief Justice's admonitions.
If he had been allowed to add to his salary in the same way as Mr Alexander had been, I believe he would have done good service as Registrar and carried out without a murmur the orders of the Supreme Court.

I need hardly add that I think Sir Michael Hicks Beach was justified in fixing the emoluments of the office at $4,800, and that a thoroughly competent Officer can be obtained for that salary.
